Barbara Jane Brookman, aged 66, of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away on October 3, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas.

Barbara ("Barb") was an immensely kind person, loved by many. She loved animals and, at the time of her passing, had three cats she adored. When her children were young, it was easy to convince their mother to take in strays, and she continued this throughout her life. Barbara enjoyed local trips to outdoor venues, and her children have many fond memories of camping and going to the beach when they were young. Barb was also a good cook and made the best homemade pot pie. She really enjoyed reading Stephen King and was working on her own novel. Barb was resourceful and talented with DIY home projects, and one of her proudest projects was building the front porch at her and her husband’s Texas home.

Barb was born in San Diego, California on November 22, 1959, to her parents Lyle Thomas Brookman and Mary Ruth Anderson. Her family moved around somewhat when she was young, but they eventually returned to Flint, Michigan, where she and her immediate family lived for many years, and many of them still live in and around the Flint area.

Barb finished her education in Flint and, at 19, began serving in the Navy, where she was stationed in San Diego. During her service, she performed duties as a silver solder, which was very impressive for a woman at that time. She was honorably discharged in May 1980, just before the birth of her first child.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Thomas Alan Bailey of Clovis, New Mexico; her four children, Daniel Raschke (Chelsea) of Boise, Idaho, Erin Leigh Hager of Auckland, New Zealand, Lynn Ann Hager of Salem, and David James Miller (Briana) of Kitchener, Ontario; her two grandchildren, Noah and Kymberli Raschke; and her brother, Michael Brookman of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Mary Brookman; her sisters, Carol Cobb and Sandra Lum; and her brother, Kerry Brookman.

Barb’s final wishes were to be cremated and her ashes to be scattered along the San Diego Bay. A burial at sea and celebration of life service will be organized for the summer of 2027.
