Carol Musgrove, 80, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Cremation services have been entrusted to Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation Services of Amarillo, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Southlawn Plaza, 4400 S. Washington Street, Suite C1 in Amarillo, Texas. Carol Jan Carter was born on December 18, 1945, in Knox City, Texas, to Christine (Stewart) and Thomas Council Carter. She married James Chan Musgrove on September 2, 1966, in Whitney, Texas. Carol loved to travel with her family, cook for her family, and especially loved to sew. She would make clothing for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved to make blankets, quilts and hand-made gifts for family and friends. One could often find Carol sifting through fabrics late at night with an ice-cold Dr Pepper in her hands and George Jones singing through the air. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christine and T.C. Carter, and her siblings, Betty Lou Dupont, Thomas Carter, Deanna Beal, Glenda Green Pogue and Terry Carter. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, James Musgrove, Sr. of Amarillo; her sister Sandra Lowe of Fort Worth, Texas; her children, James Musgrove, Jr. and wife Patricia of Gulfport, Mississippi, Deborah Musgrove and partner Daniel Moore of Weatherford, Texas, Charity Castañeda and husband Christopher of Amarillo, Texas, and April Castañeda and husband Colby of Azle, Texas; grandchildren Courtney Prihoda, Kaitlyn Phillips, Chandler Musgrove, Tommy Phillips, Ahmed Akhrass, Hannah Akhrass, Hamzah Akhrass, Yusef Akhrass, James Castañeda, Cara Castañeda, Connor Castañeda, Caleb Castañeda, Aspen Castañeda and Apple Castañeda; 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Carol has asked instead to please donate to Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, two organizations that she held dear to her heart.
