It is with profound sorrow that I, Christopher Phelps, must announce the passing of my mother, Dana Lynette Phelps, on September 3, 2024. Born on November 9, 1952, in Amarillo, Texas, Dana spent most of her life in the city she loved, where she also raised me. A smart, talented, compassionate, and creative soul, Dana’s life was a beautiful testament to her spirit, filled with a rich tapestry of experiences and accomplishments.
Dana was a pillar of strength and a beacon of wisdom in our family. Her intelligence and determination led her to a successful career as a family law attorney, serving the Amarillo community for nearly two decades. She was not just a lawyer but a passionate advocate for her clients, a testament to her compassionate nature. She was revered and admired by many for her sharp intellect, professional dedication, and her ability to make a significant difference in people’s lives. In the words of Maya Angelou, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Dana embodied this sentiment throughout her life and career, leaving a lasting impression on all those who had the privilege to know her.
However, Dana’s life wasn’t solely defined by her work. She was an ardent lover of life and cherished every moment she spent with family and friends. Her hobbies were a reflection of her creative spirit. Whether she was crafting intricate pieces of jewelry, playing a strategic game of billiards, or baking her famous cherry pie, Dana put her heart into everything she did. Her home was always filled with laughter, the smell of freshly baked goods, and the warmth of her love.
Dana is survived by her son, Christopher Phelps, her daughter-in-law, Bee Phelps, her brothers Noel and Arland Young.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Billie Young, and her brothers, Stewart and Shelley Young.
