With a profound mix of sorrow and gratitude, we honor the life of David Wayne Freeman, lovingly known as David, who was welcomed into the arms of his heavenly Father on February 1, 2025. Born on August 11, 1955, in Saint Louis, MO, David was a beacon of ambition and generosity, whose captivating spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege to know him. His life was a testament of dedicated service and boundless love, embodying the words in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas.
David’s inspiring journey commenced in the classrooms of Phillips High School, class of 1973, and took him across the states to West Texas State University, class of 1981. His passion for service led him to earn a Master’s Degree in Social Services from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1987. His career was marked by an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of others, as he served the state of Texas in Children’s and Adult’s Protective Services from 1990 until his retirement in 2014. Yet, David’s dedication extended beyond his professional life. He was a man of many interests, from his fascination with computers and Star Trek to his love for laughter and good-natured humor.
David’s legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Laura, his children DeAnn Smith and husband Austin, Jared Freeeman, Micah Freeman and wife Kasey, and Jennifer Carlock who continue to cherish and uphold the values he held dear; sisters Debra Castagnetta and husband George, Keim Melton and husband Jim; a brother, Jay Joyce and wife Rebecca, and his grandchildren, Colton Freeman, Bailey Freeman, Lucas Freeman, Kennedy Freeman, Gabby Brewer, Alexandra Atwell, and Bailey Carlock.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, JoAnn, and his parents, Lee and Geneva Freeman. David’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, service, and faith, and his memory will forever remain as a beacon of hope and inspiration.
We invite you to share your cherished memories and photos of David on his memorial page. Let’s celebrate his life and the enduring impact he made on each one of us. While we mourn his physical absence, we rejoice in knowing that his spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the love he shared. As we bid David a heartfelt farewell, we remember him as the ambitious, generous, inspiring, and dedicated soul that he was.
