Goodwill and Dollar Tree have lost a great supporter with the passing of Douglas Savage on October 20, 2026, at the Amarillo VA Community Living Center in Amarillo, Texas. Born in Borger, Texas, on February 4, 1933, to Foy Savage and Opal Moffit Weibel, he was one of four children.

He met his wife, Anita Savage of Follett, Texas, at WTSU in Canyon, Texas, and they recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. Together they had two children, John Leslie and Pamela Savage, and Richard Savage from a previous marriage.

Douglas was a Korean War Veteran stationed in Seoul, Korea, at the end of the war. He was a photographer in the Air Force and Army and a Unit Supply Technician in the Army Reserves. He earned several awards, including rifle marksmanship.

He earned his Master’s Degree in teaching and was proud that his first job began in a one-room schoolhouse, where he taught grades 5-12 and Anita K-4th. He taught art, math, science, and special ed, and helped coach basketball, football, and more over his 42-year career. Doug returned to Borger, Texas, where he grew up, and retired at Borger High School.

Douglas was preceded in death by parents Foy and Opal, sons Richard and John Leslie, siblings Lecrecia, Richard and Billy Savage, and half-brother Benny Weibel, and daughter-in-law Margie of California.

He is survived by wife Anita; daughter Pamela; grandchildren Codey, Tyler and Jessica Yandell and Eric Savage; great-granddaughter Ryleigh Yandell; and step-grandsons Gilbert and Terry of California. Nephew Benny Jr.; nieces Carrie, Juli, and Mishelle; sister-in-law Lue Weibel; and daughter-in-law Tina Savage and son-in-law Mark Yandell.

The family wants to send heartfelt thanks and best wishes to the nurses, caregivers, doctors, and all staff who cared for him at the VA CLC. They thank you not only for the care you gave Doug but also for the support you gave his family.

Interment will be decided later. Please support your local Veterans.
