Ernest married Rosie, the love of his life, on March 3, 1970. They shared 56 beautiful years together. He dedicated 54 years of hard work to Warren CAT. Ernest loved restoring his 1952 Ford F-100, collecting Hot Wheels, mowing his lovely lawn, and hugging his trees.

Ernest enjoyed watching Westerns, Fox News, and Jimmy Swaggart on TV, but most of all, he loved going on long drives with his beautiful wife.

The memories we shared will live in our hearts forever. Although Ernest may be out of sight, his love and influence will endure in every life he touched. All are welcome to attend his celebration of life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felipe Lopez and Angela Galvan; his four brothers, Frank, Larry, Amado, and Albert; and his children, Joseph and Jacob. Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Rosie; his children, Ernie and wife Misty, Eddie, and Sabian and wife Shannon; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Martha and Leticia.

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Loft Church, 4400 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, Texas, with reception to follow.

“My heart is so heavy of the passing of Papa Ernest. When I think back on my childhood, Papa Ernest and his family are such a big part of those memories. They weren’t just our neighbors – they were family to us. They loved me, looked after me, and treated me like I was one of their own. They babysat me when I was little, and I always felt safe, loved and at home with them. Ernie, Eddie and Sabine were like the older brothers I never had. I grew up with them, and those memories will always mean so much to me. Papa Ernest was like a second dad to me. I’ll always remember him joking around, making us laugh, and especially giving my mom a hard time. Those little moments may have seemed ordinary back then, but looking back now, they are some of the memories I treasure the most. He was such an important part of my life and my childhood. The love and kindness he and his family showed me helped shape so many of my memories growing up, and I will always carry that with me. Papa Ernest, thank you for loving me like family, for being there through my childhood, and for giving me so many memories that I’ll never forget. You will always have a special place in my heart. Rest peacefully. You were loved, you are missed, and you will never be forgotten, WE LOVE YOU, UNITL WE MEET AGAIN.”

“I spent many years working with Ernie in the shop at Warren Cat. We grew close and always enjoyed talking to each other. Ernie would always call me and say come see me please. It was always to fix his computer or show him how to do something. I did not mind one bit. We would joke around and just have fun at work. He would always teach me something if I asked about it. At times he wasn’t patient and say hey you going to listen or what, I’m not going to waste my time!! lol but that was Ernie. He reminds me of my grandpa and that is another reason I love this man and will miss him dearly. But I will always have years of memories with him at work! It takes true dedication to stay at a job for 54 years. He always had a list of how many managers he has had over his career, I’m not sure if he was proud of that or just wanted to show off how he didn’t quit! May the lord bless you Ernie and hope you are driving around in your truck causing trouble!”

“I owe many thanks to Ernest and Rosie for their involvement in my young life. I come from a divorced family where my father was not home and my mother worked multiple jobs. As I see it, during my most critical teen years, they kept me away from trouble and helped raise me. Ernest modeled what it meant to be a man – a Godly man. He loved and flirted with his wife. He loved his boys. He raised his boys with intention. He laughed and enjoyed life. And he made me feel like family. They had me over daily and fed me as part of the family. Ernest teased me, talked to me, and occasionally scolded me when needed. He was there for me and I will forever be grateful to him. To the family, I say sorry and I say thanks. Thanks for sharing such a great man with me.”
