Jana Kay Cross was born September 17, 1956, the youngest of three daughters to Rheta Francis Stewart Cross and Dr. James Levi Cross, a veterinarian in Tulia, Texas.

A year after her father’s untimely death, the family moved to Silverton, Texas, and the girls became stepdaughters to G.W. Lee and gained three more sisters. She attended Silverton schools from second grade through eleventh grade and was a cheerleader. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas, Texas, in May of 1974. After graduation, she completed a two-year program of study at Bauder Fashion Merchandising College in Dallas and then transferred to Texas Tech University. She followed that as the Southeast Regional Sales Representative for Levi Strauss. She helped operate and manage an art gallery in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

In 1987, Jana met California native John Rodgers. They married in 1988 and resided in Sacramento, California, when she gained two dear stepchildren, Sean and Valerie. From this marriage, one son, Dylan James Rodgers, was born in 1990, and the family moved to San Diego proper.

When Dylan was twelve years old, Jana enrolled at the Design Institute of San Diego. After finishing her studies there, she worked as a designer in the greater San Diego area for various architects on both commercial and residential properties. Her talents and skills stemmed from efforts to learn each client’s unique needs and tastes. She considered function and purpose in every space’s design while achieving beautiful aesthetics. She designed everything from restaurants and NFL footballers’ homes to underground cellars, landscapes, and amazing closets.

Her career was interrupted by falling victim to a stroke, which, with the help of her family, she heroically worked to overcome. Since then, she has been valued and appreciated for renovating and redecorating a number of her friends’ and families’ homes and businesses. She is also considered the “Queen of Clean,” keeping everyone around her organized, decluttered, and sparkling.

Being an avid pet lover, she will be greatly missed by two dogs, a cat, and three kittens. All her pets enjoyed royalty treatment.

Jana was a precious sister, daughter, wife, mother, aunt, and dear friend to so many. As a new grandmother, she was headed to California to see her new grandson after a doctor appointment in Amarillo. That appointment led to three weeks of hospitalization and culminated in her passing on Wednesday, June 3, in Hospice of Baptist Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.

A memorial service will be held for dear Jana at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the Silverton Methodist Church.

Jana attended the Silverton Methodist Church. She believed her Lord Jesus to be her Savior– knowing her ultimate home and mansion would be with Him.
