Loretta Swenk, a cherished mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on February 6, 1939, in the quaint town of Landsdale, Pennsylvania, Loretta’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and unyielding spirit.
Loretta was a devoted partner to Jim Phillips, with whom she shared a beautiful 37-year life. Their journey together began in Phoenix, Arizona, where they built a life filled with love and laughter. In later years, they moved to Amarillo, Texas, eager to be closer to her beloved children. Jim describes Loretta as the love of his life, a woman whose fiery spirit and boundless compassion captivated him from the start.
She was the proud mother of six children: Robert Swenk, Sandra Vandermark, Alice Garrett, Claude Swenk, Evelyn Murabito, and Leon Swenk. Loretta was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each a treasured jewel in her life’s crown. Her family was her greatest joy, and her legacy of love will continue to flourish through them.
Loretta dedicated 12 years to St. Luke’s Hospital, where colleagues and patients alike admired her dedication and warmth. She later spent eight years at Miles Textile, where her work ethic and meticulous attention to detail were highly regarded. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Loretta was a woman of many talents. She loved to embroider, crochet, and sew, crafting beautiful pieces that her family will cherish forever. Her evenings spent at the bingo hall with her daughter were filled with laughter and camaraderie.
Her personality was as vibrant as the threads she wove into her crafts. Known for her stubbornness, quick wit, and fiery attitude, Loretta was a force of nature. Yet beneath her spirited exterior lay a heart of gold. She loved without boundaries, welcoming everyone into her life with open arms and a generous heart.
Loretta was predeceased by her daughters, Sandra Vandermark and Evelyn Murabito, whose memories she held close throughout her life. Her legacy of love and laughter lives on in the hearts of her surviving family and friends.
As we say goodbye to Loretta, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, humor, and a fierce spirit.
Her family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, you donate to a charity of your choice in her memory. Loretta’s warmth and kindness will forever remain in our hearts, and her spirit will continue to guide us in the days to come.
