Luther Caldwell “Jim” Yarbrough, age 92, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on May 16, 2026. Born on September 9, 1933, in Birmingham, Alabama, Jim was the youngest of eight children born to George and Tiny Yarbrough.

Jim loved baseball and even played semi-professional ball for two seasons in 1948 and 1949. He moved to Amarillo, Texas, in 1951 while serving in the United States Air Force. It was there that he met the love of his life, Sandra, and the two were married in 1958, beginning a beautiful journey together. Their love and faithfulness were a shining example to all who knew them, and they joyfully celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this past March.

Jim dedicated many years of service to the City of Amarillo, retiring in 2008 at the age of 75. In addition to his professional career, he spent nearly four decades as a respected softball umpire from 1975 to 2013, a role he truly enjoyed. He officiated his last game at the remarkable age of 80!!

Jim found joy in life’s simple pleasures- watching sports, enjoying old westerns and classic television shows, and playing morning games of Solitaire with a real deck of cards. He was known for his quick wit, always ready with a joke or riddle, and cherished his quiet mornings spent working crossword puzzles in the newspaper with his very first cup of coffee.

Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love for his family was steadfast and deep. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Yarbrough; his daughters, Delilah Bellar and husband Donnie of Amarillo and Debbie Campbell and Tim Jayroe of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Brandon Bellar and Stephen Dillard, Miranda (Mandi) and Zach Ballard, and Marcus and Kinsey Bellar; and his eleven great-grandchildren, Leighton, Ben, Kaylee, Elijah, Chloe, Elizabeth, Brennan, Brecken, Millie, Beau, and Barrett.

Jim and Sandra were faithful members of The Church at Quail Creek, where they warmly served as greeters for many years, welcoming others with kindness and joy. His Christian faith was the foundation of his life, and his family finds peace in knowing he is now rejoicing in eternal life with his Savior.

“And this is the promise that He has promised us- eternal life.” — 1 John 2:25

Though Jim will be deeply missed, his family rejoices in the assurance that this is not goodbye, but simply “until we meet again.” May his memory be a blessing and his legacy of love, laughter, and faith live on in all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 2:00 pm at The Church at Quail Creek.
