On August 7, 2025, we bid farewell to a remarkable man, Manuel Mestas. Born in Memphis, Texas on May 25, 1951, Manuel’s life was a stellar example of humble dedication, touching hearts with his loving nature, and strong loyalty. As Albert Einstein once said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile” and Manuel lived this truth every day of his life. His love for his family, friends, and country were his guiding principles, and he never met a stranger, always ready to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement.
Throughout his life, Manuel was a pillar of reliability, having spent many years in the construction industry before his retirement. His hardworking spirit was not only evident in his professional life, but also in his personal pursuits. An avid Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast, Manuel relished the freedom of the open road and cherished spontaneous trips to the mountains or backroads of the country. The roar of his Harley was a familiar and comforting sound to those who knew him well. He was passionate about his service in the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his life and instilled in him an unshakeable pride in his country.
In his free time, Manuel could often be found in his shop or those of his close friends, hands busy building or rebuilding anything and everything mechanical. This pastime not only showcased his mechanical prowess but also his humble joy in companionship and shared creativity. His life was a testament to the words of Helen Keller, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.” Manuel’s presence was indeed a beautiful thing that was deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Manuel is survived by his son, Michael Mestas, and his siblings Ramona Soliz, Josie Solis, Pat Mestas, Polly Murdock, Janie Cortez, Freddie Mestas, Johnny Mestas, and Joe Mestas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leandro Mestas Sr. and Cruzita Mestas, and his siblings Leandro Mestas and Mary Helen Mestas.
In honor of Manuel’s life, we invite you to share your memories and upload photos of him to the memorial page. It is through these shared moments that his spirit will continue to live on, reminding us of the loving, loyal, reliable, and humble man that he was.
