Marie A. Villegas, affectionately known to many as “Marvelous Marie” and “Chayo,” passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on September 23, 2026. She was born on May 8, 1964, in Hereford, Texas. Marie later made her home in Amarillo, Texas, where she built a life centered in faith, family, and joy.
A dedicated homemaker, Marie’s greatest passion was her family. Her God-redeemed husband, three daughters, seven grandchildren, and first great-granddaughter, Selah, whom she was blessed to meet before her passing, were the center of her world. Marie was the life of the party; she loved dancing, playing darts, thrifting for treasures, and playing the slots. Her unmatched sense of humor and spirited energy brought warmth, laughter, and joy to every family get-together. Above all, Marie gave her life to Jesus, placing her heart and faith in Him.
She was preceded in death by her father, Luz Alvarez; mother, Rodolfa Caballero (husband, Jesus Caballero); brothers, Oscar Alvarez and Joe Luis Alvarez; and son-in-law, Eddie Carrillo.
Marie is survived by her loving spouse, Art Villegas of Amarillo; three daughters, Liza Carrillo (late husband Eddie Carrillo) of Hereford, Georgette A. Andrade and husband, Jonathan of Amarillo, and Samantha Luzette Villegas of Amarillo; seven beloved grandchildren, Annalyce Marie Carrillo, Lizette Rose Carrillo, Edward Ezekiel Carrillo, Edika Ezael Carrillo, Danika Marie Medina, Helen-Rose Andrade, Brett Andrade; and her precious great-granddaughter, Selah Serene Chavez. She is also survived by her brothers, John Alvarez and wife Santos of Uvalde, and Arturo Alvarez and wife Rachel of San Antonio; and her sisters, Gloria Kohn of San Antonio, Rosie Tijerina and husband George, Rosemary Badillo and husband Juan, and Sylvia Castillo and husband Daniel, all of Hereford, Texas. Marie’s vibrant spirit, hilarious humor, loving heart, and deep affection for her family will forever be remembered and celebrated by all who knew and loved her.
