John Charles Robertson Senior, 84, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Panhandle, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025. He was born on September 2, 1941, to Ray and Alma Robertson in Vernon, Texas.

John attended Amarillo Public Schools and graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1960. He worked at the Schmelter plant in Amarillo for several years before beginning a 37-year career at Amarillo Gear Company.

He enjoyed family, fishing trips, playing softball, as well as bowling and dancing. One of his hobbies was tinkering with old cars. He was a joyful and peaceful soul and enjoyed the company of family and friends.

John coached many Kids Inc. sports teams and is still lovingly referred to as “Coach John” to this day. While serving as a round-up coordinator for Kids Inc., he met the love of his life. They married on May 28, 1977.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Alma Robertson; a daughter, Dawn Robertson; a son, Mike James; and a grandson, Jason Inman.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of 49 years, sons, John Robertson, Junior, and wife, Alta of Amarillo; Thomas Robertson and wife, Lisa of Austin, Texas; daughters Tammy Robertson of Columbus, Ohio, and Trisha Smith and husband Bubba of Shamrock. He has 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  He will be dearly missed.

A Memorial Service is set for January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Avenue.
